The TSP143 LAN printer must be connected via ethernet cable to the same local area network (LAN) that your POS stations are connected to. This usually requires connecting the printer directly to the router via an ethernet cable.

Acquiring the printer's IP address
- Make sure the printer is powered off.
- Ensure that the printer has a roll of paper installed.
- Press down and hold the "Feed" button.
- Turn the printer on.
- Hold down the feed button until the printer starts to print out diagnostic information. This may take up to 1 minute.
- Two pages should be printed. The second page will have a section titled "Current IP Parameters Status." Your printer's IP Address will be the first line in this section. Keep this page for later.

Installing the Star Micronics CUPS driver
In order to print to the receipt printer from your Mac you will need to install the manufacturer's printer drivers.
The Star Micronics CUPS drivers for OSX can be downloaded at http://www.starmicronics.com/support/DriverFolder/drvr/starcupsdrv-3.4.0_mac_20121218.zip.
Once this file is downloaded you will need to locate it in Finder. In the example below, the file is located in the "Downloads" folder.
Now you need to extract the contents of the zip file by double-clicking on it.
Next, navigate to the folder that is created (e.g. starcupsdrv-3.4.0_mac) and then into the "Driver" folder.
Now, double-click "starcupsdrv-3.4.0.pkg" to launch the installer.
The installer will guide you through installer the printer drivers.
Once the installation is complete open "System Preferences" and navigate to the printers preference pane.
Click the "+" button and choose "Add Printer." When the add printer dialog appears click on the "IP" button. In the "Address:" text field enter the ip address of the printer that was printed out earlier. Select "HP Jetdirect - Socket" for the Protocol. In the "Use" dropdown select "Other."
Select "Star TSP100 Cutter" and then click "Add".
Verifying Printer Configuration
The final step in the process is to verify that the printer settings are correct.
First, open a web browser and navigate to http://localhost:631 to access the CUPS administration interface.
Click "Administration" Menu.
Click "Manage Printers" button.
Click on your Star TSP printer's queue name.
In the Administration dropdown select "Set Default Options." You may be asked to enter an administrator username and password.
Set Media Size to "72mm * 2000mm" and click "Set Default Options."
Now, click on the "Cut Options" link. You'll land on this page:
Make sure that both the "Page Cut Type" and "Document Cut Type" are set to Partial Cut.
Configure the printer to open the cash drawer
- Select your printer model.
- Select from the drop down menu Set Default Options.
- Select Cash Drawer Control.
- Choose Open Drawer 1.
- Click Set Default Options button.
Congratulations! Your printer is now configured!
